The Sunflower Romper… yes its a little more than 3 bucks...but why is it?

This photo just makes my heart sing. Margot’s mumma (Rachel) is such a supporter of the handmade movement. Best of all, this romper has been handed down from her big brother! A perfect heirloom piece.
I know I go on about it but there is so much that has gone into the design and making of this sunflower romper but I don't know if people are actually aware of it,so please let me explain the benefits of handmade clothing for toddlers.
You see there are many elements that make this handmade romper so special, today though I am going to talk about just one; the material.
Material? The merino yarn that I use in the sunflower romper is a natural fibre. Natural fibres DO NOT include any particles of plastic that you find in most clothing materials such as polyester, many yarns and denim.
This means that it is soft on the skin and breathes, allowing for the best comfort.
You see, when baby and toddlers feel comfortable and secure, they thrive! Through play and exploration, this is where the learning takes place and when they feel comfortable in their clothing, that is when they learn best. (I hate to be that person, but I have studied Child development for years, in my previoius life I was an Early Childhood teacher)
This natural yarn from Nundle has a hidden benefit, it can actually be machine washed. I recommend using a gentle wash and laying flat to dry.
When it is finally time for the romper to be laid to rest, the romper is biodegradable. It will NOT be added to the millions of pieces of clothing that currently is added to landfill, that due to the composition of plastic will not break down in our lifetime.
Have you seen the documentary “Buy Now” on Netflix? Oh my gosh, watch it, I’m sure it will make you think about your next clothing purchase!
Another important factor of this material is where it is made. I use the most gorgeous yarn from Nundle Woollen Mill.
Nundle is a small town a 31/2 hour drive west from my current home town. On our first trip there in 2019 the country side was brown; Nundle and the surrounding towns were facing the worst drought conditions for many years.
I made a pact with myself that I would use this beautiful yarn in most of my designs and makes. My small way in supporting the town.
I must add in the years since then the area has been hit with floods and bushfire. Life is hard in the country.
We try to get out to Nundle every year (life permitting) not only do I love spending a lot of time in the shop & mill, hubby loves to camp and do a bit of gold mining. It is truly a beautiful part of the country that needs a few good days to explore. And it is very important that we support small communities.
Anyhoo… I just wanted to share a little bit of information about my little romper and the thought & process that incorporates the gorgeous end result.
The romper has been handmade with real hands from material that is produced in small community. Not a machine knit, made from dubious materials in a factory.
A beautiful little outfit that is so much more than a piece of clothing that is purchased off the rack for 3 bucks.
And yes, toddlers can and will benefit from wearing handmade
And yes the romper is available for purchase in my shop
Thanks for reading,
Melissa
