The sunflower knitwear collection, for baby + toddlers

Updated: Oct 27, 2025

My love of the sunflower granny square was great. When I saw it for the first time it hit me it the gut. (this is where I have learnt that I need to listen. When I get that feeling, it is visceral).

I began to think of how I could add this beautiful little flower square to the baby rompers that I was currently making. Once I had worked that out, I began to think of other designs that could be made with this humble little square.

I wondered would mums and dads dress their children in knitwear? Did parents know the importance of dressing their children in natural materials? However the ideas for baby and toddler sunflower knitwear began to bombard me. While I was in the shower, while I was cuddling a baby to sleep at work, while I was driving to visit my mum, while I was sorting the washing, while I was rushing to put dinner together. The ideas hit me quickly as I was moving back then; fast. Everything was happening at a fast pace, and so where my creative ideas, over and over again.

When I had the opportunity I would quickly pick up my hook and yarn and start to make, one piece of sunflower knitwear after another. There was no time to write it down, the items just had to be made. And then over time, before I even had a chance to realise what I had done, I realised that I had created a Sunflower Knitwear Collection.

So here it is, the sunflower knitwear collection.

I love that the Sunflower collection is made with Australian Merino Yarn from Nundle Woollen Mill. This yarn is perfect for clothing as the fibre is natural, allowing the body to breathe. And as I know from my Early Childhood Teaching days, when a baby/children feel comfortable and safe, they are free to play and explore, and of course this is where all their learning happens.

I adore recieving photos of children wearing my clothing, especially as they play.

I could not leave out the super important big girls. I created this bag as well, a very handy market/beach bag.

So is that the end of the sunflower collection? Absoultly not. My plan is to create patterns and tutorials for the entire collection. And I keep thinking of more.. more knitwear to create and make. I think it is important to point out that this collection took years to create. It was not done quickly, it did not go viral, I did not become famous overnight :)

It is really like a tapestry of my life over the past few years. All placed together and will, I suspect, continue to grow and change.

And if you have made it this far... thanks :)

Remember to do something creative everyday.

It is so very important for your soul.
