Hello!
Today marks 11 years since I taught myself how to crochet. It took me quiet a while to lean as I am a very slow learner. Despite completing a Uni Degree in Early Childhood Education, it has only been recently that I have come to realise that I learn best via variety of approaches. For me, visual photos, tutorials and written techniques that I can flip between is the best way for me to learn and support my learning style.
Since this realisation I have ensured that my patterns include visual aids such as photos and tutorials.
And today I thought I would go back to basics and share what I believe is the best way to learn how to crochet - the Granny Square.

Now if you are super new to crochet, I have a free learn to crochet tutorial where I take you through the all the foundation stitches needed to create a granny square. Just click the button below;
You will Need:
A crochet hook (the size does not really matter,
however I find it easier with a 4.5mm hook (referred to
a size 7 in both the US and UK)
Yarn (again it does not matter so much) however here
in Australia 8ply is very popular, and works
beautifully with a size 4.5 hook. 8 ply yarn is
equivalent to what is called 'dk' weight in the US.
A pair of scissors
A needle for threading

Now if you would like a video tutorial you can find it here;
Let me know if you need any help at all with granny square, I adore helping people learn to crochet. Creativity is so very important to our mental health. As is learning something new is so important to our brain functioning and continued development.
Have a wonderful day,
Melissa
